Three Hundred and six (306) pupils at Asuom Islamic Basic School in the Eastern region use only one computer to study ICT.
This situation has affected the performance of pupils in ICT during the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
Asuom Islamic Basic School in the Kwaebibirim District of the Eastern region was established by the Ghana Muslim Mission and the Asuom Muslim Community in 1985.
The classrooms were made with palm fronts but in 1988, the Ghana Muslim Mission raised funds to put up a mud block made up of six units pavilion classroom for the primary school and later added the JHS.
The classrooms have not been renovated since its construction therefore its condition keeps deteriorating. The roof is in tatters hence academic work disrupted whenever it rains.
Teachers and pupils are always at the mercy of the harsh weather condition.
The Headmaster of the School, Isaac Nkansah Gyekye told Starr News, the poor condition of the School affected enrolment as many parents withdrew their children from the school.
Currently, the total population of Asuom Islamic School is 306. The school is faced with other challenges such as inadequate teaching and learning materials as well as computers.
The school has two computers but only one functions and can be used for ICT Practicals.The Headmaster says the situation is affecting performance of students in ICT subject in the BECE.
The Ghana Muslim Mission has meanwhile, handed over a six unit’s classroom block, a borehole and a toilet facility to the School.
The National Chairman of Ghana Muslim Mission (GMM), Sheik Dr. Amiu Bonsu, told Starr News, the facility will improve performance of pupils.
