Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has said the government has no interest in the identities or motivations of individuals who have petitioned President John Mahama seeking the removal of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, her two deputies, and the Special Prosecutor.
Speaking exclusively to EIB Network’s Presidential Affairs Correspondent, Abdul-Hanan Adam, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu emphasized that the focus is on the substance of the petitions, not who filed them.
“The identities, declaration, the motivation of the petitioners is not a matter that concerns government. It is the substance of the claims that they are making that will be subjected to a strict test by the Chief Justice,” he said.
His remarks follow the submission of seven petitions to President Mahama seeking the removal of EC Chairperson Jean Mensa and her deputies, Dr. Bossman Asare and Samuel Tettey.
The President has forwarded all petitions to the Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, for preliminary examination as required by law.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu further clarified the limited role of the Presidency in the process.
“The president has absolutely no role beyond forwarding the petitions as received to the Chief Justice. So it is the Chief Justice who will determine the grounds upon which the process has to be taken forward,” he said.
He added that the concerns raised in the petitions will be evaluated strictly within constitutional and legal frameworks to ensure fairness and due process.
