The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced December 30, 2025, as the date for a rerun of the parliamentary election in the Kpandai Constituency.
In a statement, the Commission explained that the decision follows a formal notification from the Clerk to Parliament, which referenced an order issued by the Tamale High Court on November 24, 2025.
The court ruling effectively nullified the sitting of the Member of Parliament for Kpandai and directed Parliament to take steps that resulted in the declaration of the seat as vacant.
“As a result of the court ruling and the declaration of vacancy in Parliament, the Commission will conduct a rerun of the Parliamentary Election in the Kpandai Constituency on Tuesday, 30th December, 2025,” the EC stated.
The Commission indicated that the rerun will be limited to the three candidates who contested the 2024 parliamentary election in the constituency.
The Kpandai seat has been at the centre of political controversy in recent weeks. Minority Members of Parliament strongly protested the Clerk’s decision to formally communicate the court ruling to the EC, arguing that due parliamentary processes had not been fully exhausted.
The Minority, at one point, staged a walkout and appeared in black to protest what they described as a rushed and unlawful declaration of vacancy.
