A staff member of the Electoral Commission (EC) have formally petitioned President John Dramani Mahama, requesting the removal of EC Chair Jean Mensa and her two deputies over alleged misbehaviour, including cronyism, abuse of office, and gross incompetence.
In a statement on Monday, November 24, Joseph Blankson Adumadzie, a staff member of the EC, said he submitted the petition in accordance with Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution.
He explained that the complaint targets Jean Adukwei Mensa, Chairperson of the EC, Dr. Bossman Eric Asare, Deputy Chairperson for Corporate Services, and Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairperson for Operations.
The petition cites twelve counts of misbehaviour which, according to Mr. Adumadzie, “have collectively undermined public confidence in the Electoral Commission and pose a threat to the credibility, independence, and integrity of Ghana’s electoral process.”
He added that the action is “taken in the supreme interest of the 1992 Constitution, accountable governance, and preservation of the dignity of the Electoral Commission.”
Mr. Adumadzie respectfully urged the President to “act in accordance with his constitutional duty by referring the petition to the Chief Justice for the determination of a prima facie case.”
He concluded by emphasizing his commitment to democratic principles, saying, “I remain committed to upholding the principles of transparency, fairness, and integrity in our democratic institutions.”
