Ghanaian politician and former chairperson of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Samia Nkrumah, has highlighted the importance of economic integration among African countries.
In an interview with Bola Ray on Starr Chat, Samia Nkrumah stated, “I don’t think any government can perform to our satisfaction, without seriously taking up the challenge of working with other African governments.” She added, “Our father wrote about this extensively. For our economic survival, we need to integrate with other economies.”
Madam Nkrumah emphasized the benefits of economic integration, saying, “There are so many things we could do easier and cheaper, including even borrowing, if we collaborate.” She stressed that economic integration is crucial for Africa’s survival, stating, “I think the solution to our economic wars and challenges as individual African countries is to take this very seriously.”
Samia Nkrumah also noted that political will is necessary for economic integration to succeed. She said, “But the trouble is, we can never be economically integrated if the politicians don’t buy into it, meaning without a common political basis of sorts.”
Madam Samia Nkrumah expressed disappointment with the performance of governments in Ghana, saying, “No government has delivered satisfactorily to the people of Ghana… The NPP government has not delivered satisfactorily. The NDC government has not delivered satisfactorily. Since we returned to multiparty democracy, we are floundering.”
