The Eastern Regional Director of Education, Dr. Ivy Asantewa Owusu, has condemned the alleged gang rape involving eight male students from Mpraeso Senior High School.

She said the Regional Education Directorate is worried about the incident.

“They’ve been caught and their charge is rape. There are eight boys, three have run away. What are they going to do with their lives? Which school will they attend again because now everything is coded? They were handcuffed walked through the principal streets and put in cells. They have not been granted bail”.

Five of the students have been remanded in police custody for 10 days, following accusations of sexually assaulting a female student.

The Nkawkaw District Court presided over by His Worship Isaac Agyei, remanded the suspects after they were initially discharged due to discrepancies in the charge sheet prepared by the police.

However, they were quickly rearrested and re-arraigned.

The court has also ordered the headmaster of Mpraeso SHS, Mr. James Affadu, to appear before the court to explain why the school authorities did not promptly report the incident to the police and why representatives from the school were absent during the court proceedings.

A bench warrant has been issued for the arrest of three other students still at large.

The Eastern Regional Director of Education Ivy Asantewa Owusu expressed concerns over rising indiscipline and immoral conduct among students.

She cautioned against inappropriate relationships among students, as well as between teachers and students.

She said these when Speaking at the launch of 25th anniversary of Pentecost SHS in Koforidua

The Theme for the anniversary ” 25 Years of Nurturing Future Leaders of Excellence and Virtue: The PENSEC Story.”

The event, held at the school premises, marked a significant milestone in the institution’s journey since its establishment by the Church of Pentecost in February 2000.

The headmaster of PENSEC Elder Peter Atta-Gyamfi recounted the school’s growth from its humble beginnings with just 110 students and 16 staff members but now a thriving institution with over 2,000 students and 159 staff members.

He said the mission remains the same – to provide holistic education rooted in academic excellence and Christian values.

The headmaster also emphasized the school’s notable achievements in academics, sports, and other extracurricular activities. He praised the students for consistently excelling in WASSCE and regional sports competitions, while also stressing the school’s focus on instilling values of integrity and discipline in its students. “Our greatest success lies in shaping young minds to meet the demands of an ever-changing world.

Speaking on the theme: for the anniversary, the headmaster stated that “25 Years of Nurturing Future Leaders of Excellence and Virtue: The PENSEC story” resonates deeply with our vision to become a training center for Human capital.
