The Ministry of Education has clarified that the selection of four Ghanaian languages for a new Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered education tool is only a pilot phase and not a permanent exclusion of any language group.
In a statement dated Saturday January 24, 2026, the Ministry addressed concerns raised by members of the Ga and Adangbe communities following the announcement of a planned collaboration with Google to develop the AI learning platform.
According to the Ministry, the initial language selection is meant to test the performance and effectiveness of the tool before it is rolled out nationwide.
It stressed that the pilot will guide improvements and inform broader implementation across the country.
“The Ministry wishes to state unequivocally that the selection of four local languages … is strictly on a pilot basis,” the statement said.
The Ministry explained that once the pilot phase is successfully evaluated, the programme will be expanded to cover all twelve approved Ghanaian languages, including Ga and Adangbe.
“It is important to emphasise that this initiative is designed to be inclusive,” the Ministry noted, adding that Ga and Adangbe are explicitly part of the planned expansion.
The Ministry further reaffirmed its commitment to linguistic diversity and equal access to education, particularly as technology is increasingly used to enhance learning outcomes.
The Ministry also indicated that it will continue engaging traditional authorities, communities and other stakeholders as the initiative progresses.
