The Ministry of Education has congratulated the University for Development Studies (UDS) football team for making history as the first African university to win the World University Games football tournament in Dalian, China.
Organised by the International University Sports Federation (FISU), the World University Games is the largest multi-sport event after the Olympics, bringing together thousands of student-athletes from universities across the globe.
In a statement, the Ministry described the 2-1 triumph over Brazil’s Paulista University as an “outstanding victory,” praising the team’s discipline, resilience, teamwork, and excellence.
“The Ministry of Education extends heartfelt congratulations to the University for Development Studies (UDS) football team for their outstanding victory in the finals of the 2025 World University Games held in Dalian, China.
This historic achievement is a testament to the values of discipline, resilience, teamwork, and excellence. The gallant UDS team has shown that with unity of purpose and unwavering determination, great heights can be attained,” the statement said.
It added that the win not only brought glory to Ghana but also elevated Africa’s image on the world stage, serving as a beacon of hope and inspiration to young people.
The Ministry commended the players and technical team for their dedication and urged them to continue striving for excellence.
