#EIBElectionHub: Special delegates congress won’t break NPP – Kamal-Deen

The deputy Communication Director for the governing NPP, Kamal-Deen Abdulai has stated that the Special Delegates Congress to select five will not divide the party.

The Special Delegates Congress will be held across the country in all the 16 regions including the National Headquarters of the party.

Some 961 delegates are expected to tomorrow cast their ballot to trim down the 10 Presidential Candidate aspirants to a final 5 that would contest for the final flagbearership race on November 4, 2023.

Speaking on Starr Today with Joshua Kodjo Mensah, the deputy Communication Director for NPP stated that the party will come stronger after the elections today August 26, 2023.

“This is not the first time we are doing this Special Delegates Congress. I recall in 2016 we had the same and we pruned down the number to five and we have the main conference held. I believe that in every election there is anxiety as it were.

“We have been there before as a party and we are going to be there God willing. This should not break us. This is an internal process and whoever will be counted among the five will bring all of them together,” Mr. Abdulai stated.

Meanwhile, pollster and managing news editor of the daily dispatch newspaper Ben Ephson has made his prediction on candidates that would make the top five ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s super delegates conference.

But speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey Friday, Mr. Ephson has streamlined the number to 6 of whom he is certain of 3 that would make it while three others battle for the final two spots.

Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen and Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong tipped as front runners are contesting 7 others, former Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Joe Ghartey; energy expert, Kwadwo Opoku, former NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, former Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, former Minister of Energy, Boakye Agyarko; former Mampong Member of Parliament (MP), Francis Addai-Nimoh and former Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku for a place in the top 5.

“Well I think of the 10, there are 3 I am sure will make it to the 5 [Ken, Alan, Bawumia] and the remaining two will come from these three, Joe Ghartey, Afriyie Akoto and Boakye-Agyarko”, he said.
