The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of an Electoral Commission (EC) official in the Kintampo South Constituency of the Bono East Region for alleged electoral offences during the ongoing general elections.
In a press release, the police identified the suspect as Dery Joseph, who is under investigation for allegedly issuing about 15 ballot papers that excluded the first presidential candidate. The incident reportedly occurred at the Ampesika-Bayere polling station.
The omission of a candidate’s name on the ballot paper is a direct violation of electoral regulations and raises significant concerns about the integrity of the process. The police have assured the public that thorough investigations are underway and that anyone found culpable will face the full force of the law.
This development highlights the need for vigilance and adherence to electoral procedures as the country seeks to ensure a transparent and credible election. Both voters and officials have been urged to report any irregularities to the authorities to maintain the credibility of the democratic process.
The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to upholding law and order throughout the elections, emphasizing that such breaches will not be tolerated.
