Fathers in Takoradi received a well-deserved spotlight this year as Empire FM and its sister station, Radio 360, partnered with local businesses to mark Father’s Day with impactful giveaways that celebrated fatherhood with purpose and pride.

In a society where Father’s Day often passes with little fanfare compared to the elaborate celebrations of Mother’s Day, the initiative brought attention to the quiet strength, sacrifices, and steadfast presence of fathers, often unsung heroes in many households.

Working in partnership with GOIL, Chaneck Pharmacy, Star Oil, Beauty and More, and Dynasty Boutique, the two mass radio stations launched a campaign asking listeners to submit heartfelt write-ups detailing why their fathers deserved to be honoured.

The rewards were both meaningful and practical: free blood pressure monitors, glucometers, and fuel vouchers; gifts designed to not only celebrate fathers but also support their health and well-being.

One of the winners, Ebenezer, spoke warmly of his father’s wisdom and discipline:

“One thing I’ll always remember my dad for is how firm he was in saying no when necessary. He knew what was best for us even when we didn’t.”

Another winner, Suzy, reflected on her father’s sacrifices as a struggling farmer who managed to pay her school fees against all odds.

“I celebrate my dad, as the only child of a man who made a living through farming. In my final year, I was sent home for being unable to pay GH¢1,700 in fees. How he managed to raise that money and get me back in school still amazes me. Though he doesn’t have much, he always ensures I have something, no matter how small,” she shared.

Winners expressed deep gratitude to Empire FM and Radio 360 for making Father’s Day special for men who are often overlooked.

The initiative not only brought smiles to deserving fathers but also highlighted the vital role they play in shaping families and communities; reminding all that fathers, too, deserve to be celebrated.
