The Office of the First Lady, Lordina Mahama, has condemned the reported baby theft incident at the Mamprobi Polyclinic, while commending the Ghana Police Service for the swift recovery of the child.
In a statement, Mrs. Mahama expressed relief that the stolen baby has been found safely and reunited with her biological mother and family.
She praised the police for what she described as a swift and professional response, which led to the arrest of a suspect and the safe return of the newborn.
While empathising with women and families struggling with conception, the First Lady cautioned that “desperation must never be allowed to lead to such unconscionable acts.”
She further urged hospitals, maternity homes and other medical facilities to tighten security around maternity wards to better protect mothers and newborns.
Mrs. Mahama also encouraged individuals seeking to build families through adoption to follow the lawful process by working with accredited adoption agencies and complying with all legal requirements.
