Several parts of Accra have been hit by flooding on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, following a few hours of rainfall that brought vehicular traffic to a standstill and disrupted business activities.
The downpour severely affected key routes, including the stretch from the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC) to Atomic Down, resulting in heavy congestion and road closures.
One of the most impacted areas was the stretch leading to the Ofankor Barrier, which became completely blocked shortly after the rains began.
Floodwaters submerged major roads, rendering them impassable and forcing many motorists to either park their vehicles or carefully navigate through the rising water.
Many commuters abandoned their journeys and sought shelter, while shop owners in affected areas were forced to close their businesses to avoid damage.
The situation has once again highlighted the persistent flooding challenges facing the capital during the rainy season, raising renewed concerns over poor drainage systems and urban planning.
