Thomas Partey, former Arsenal and Ghana midfielder, is facing five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, the Metropolitan Police has confirmed.
The 32-year-old Hertfordshire resident is alleged to have committed the offences between 2021 and 2022. Two rape charges involve one woman, while three others relate to a second woman. The sexual assault charge pertains to a third complainant.
Partey, however, is expected to make his first court appearance at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 5 August.
The arrest follows Partey’s departure from Arsenal after his contract expired.
The midfielder, who signed with the London side from Atlético Madrid in 2020, had recently been linked with potential moves to Juventus, Barcelona, and Fenerbahçe.
Partey made over 100 appearances for Arsenal and has long been a pivotal member of Ghana’s national team.
