Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo is requesting that the President provide her with copies of the three petitions seeking her removal.
She stated that this will enable her to provide responses that can inform consultations and potentially lead to the establishment of a Committee of Inquiry to investigate the petitions.
This development comes two days after government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu announced that three petitions for the Chief Justice’s removal had been referred to the Council of State.
Here’s the modified sentence:
In a three-page document cited by Starrfm.com.gh titled “Request to be given copies of petitions submitted against Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo (Chief Justice) before consultations between His Excellency the President and the Council of State under Article 146(6),” Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo expressed concerns about the procedure.
“I am by this letter humbly and respectfully asking His Excellency the President and eminent members of the Council of State to forward the petitions against me to me, and allow me at least seven days after receipt of same, to provide my response to you, which response can then form part of the material that you conduct the consultations anticipated under 146 (6), before the possible setting up of a Committee of Inquiry under article 146 (7),” the CJs letter stated.
