The Court of Appeal’s Criminal Division has thrown out an attempt by Dr Naa Dedei Tagoe to pause ongoing proceedings in the case involving Charles Bissue and two others.
Dr. Tagoe, the third accused, had asked the appellate court to stop the High Court trial after it earlier declined to suspend its December 9, 2025 decision allowing the first prosecution witness to testify in camera.
Her legal team argued that such a directive undermines the right to a public hearing.
However, state prosecutors maintained that the request lacked merit, insisting the trial court had put in place sufficient measures to safeguard the rights of the accused.
In its ruling, the Court of Appeal found no exceptional basis to justify halting the trial and held that no irreparable harm had been established. The application was consequently dismissed.
The High Court is now set to proceed with the case, which centres on allegations that Mr Bissue and his co-accused accepted bribes and unlawful gifts to expedite a mining concession process for an unlicensed firm.
