The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has convened a high-level meeting with the Greater Accra Regional and District Police Commanders and the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs to deliberate on chieftaincy disputes and security concerns linked to the ongoing Homowo festival.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of the Interior, focused on measures to safeguard peace and stability in the region amid rising tensions.

Alhaji Mubarak directed the police commanders to adopt a zero-tolerance approach to crime, stressing that “crime must be treated as crime.”

He charged the police to remain firm and resolute in preventing disturbances related to chieftaincy disputes and Homowo celebrations.

He further emphasized the need for swift prosecution of offenders to serve as a deterrent.

“The right things must be done, and all related matters must face prosecution to uphold justice,” the Minister noted.

He also underscored the importance of collaboration between the Ghana Police Service and the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, urging both institutions to strengthen their engagement in tackling the root causes of disputes.

Registrar of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, Mr. Enoch Addo, expressed appreciation for the meeting and reaffirmed the chiefs’ commitment to promoting peace.

He assured that the House of Chiefs would continue to work closely with the police to address security concerns and ensure harmony during and after the Homowo festival.
