The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced the resumption of its 2025/2026 recruitment exercise in the Greater Accra Region, set for Thursday, November 20, following last week’s tragic stampede at El-Wak Stadium.
A statement from the Department of Public Relations at General Headquarters, Burma Camp, confirmed that screening will take place at eight sub-centres across five locations, including El-Wak Stadium, Nicholson Park, Air Force Base, TRADOC Teshie, and Eastern Naval Command in Tema.
“All qualified applicants in batches of 600 persons, will each receive an SMS specifying their reporting dates, batches and designated centres. They are also encouraged to check on the recruitment portal for updates,” the statement read.
Applicants are advised to strictly follow instructions, and families and friends are cautioned not to accompany potential recruits to reduce congestion.
The resumption comes after the GAF suspended the exercise following a stampede that left six young women dead and 28 others injured.
Those injured are receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital, including 12 in critical condition and five in intensive care.
President John Dramani Mahama directed a full, independent investigation into the incident, emphasizing the need for better safety protocols during public recruitment exercises.
GAF has confirmed that the Board of Inquiry investigating the recent recruitment stampede is currently underway.
To ensure a fair and transparent process, the military has replaced the entire Greater Accra recruitment team. Commodore FA Nyarko, Colonel F. Kusi-Darko, and Colonel GB Eduah have assumed the roles of Director General Human Resource, Director Manpower, and Director Information Technology, respectively.
The armed forces assured the public that anyone found responsible will face appropriate sanctions.
The military also expressed condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
All those affected will continue to receive free medical treatment at the 37 Military Hospital. In addition, a special recruitment package will be made available to both the injured and the bereaved families after recovery.
The GAF urged the public to cooperate fully as the exercise resumes and the investigation continues, highlighting its commitment to a safe and transparent recruitment process.
