Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has called for equal disciplinary measures against all candidates implicated in voter inducement during the Ayawaso East primaries.
His remarks come after President John Dramani Mahama recalled Mohammed Baba Jamal from his position as Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria over allegations of vote buying during the primaries.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey on Wednesday, February 11, Gbande said, “If Baba Jamal would have to suffer because of this particular incident of widespread inappropriate distribution of goods to party members, then it is only fair that any other appointee who is involved in this election should also receive a similar sanction.”
He noted that all five candidates admitted to engaging in inappropriate conduct, and that the NDC has already filed Baba Jamal as its candidate for the upcoming by-election after reviewing the committee’s recommendations.
Gbande added that the party’s actions demonstrate a commitment to internal discipline and restoring public confidence.
“We are cleaning our house to look nice in the eyes of the public too, to uphold the confidence, the trust that you and ordinary Ghanaians have in the NDC,” he said.
