The Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) has presented a cheque of GHC3,161,500 to be disbursed to about about 600 victims of Akyem Oda Market fire.

The amount comes a month after Microfinance and Small Loan Center(MASLOC) disbursed about one million cedis to the victims.

The disbursement of total of Ghc4.2 million to the victims of the September 13,2021 fire disaster at the market by the two Institutions is in fulfilment of A promise by President Akufo-Addo when he visited the scene in October to commiserate with the affected traders.

The President said he had instructed Ghana Enterprises Agency and MASLOC to provide financial assistance to the affected traders to resiliently bounce back to business.

The Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) Mrs.Kosi Yankey Ayeh urged the 559 beneficiaries to judiciously imbursed the financial support received to revive their businesses and take advantage of the high demands for goods during the yuletide make great sales.

“Through the direction of the President and the Community we were called to provide support to the enterprises that have been impacted .The Ghana Enterprises Agency’s job is to provide support to micro small and media enterprises some of whom are traders , retailers , manufacturers , agrobuisiness and so we are here to provide them the needed support at a time such as this . my advice really to the beneficiaries is that they should utilize the funds for what is meant to b which is to imbursed in heir businesses and use that to grow and build their businesses ” she said .

The Member of Parliament for Akyem Oda Alexander Akwesi Acquah who doubles as the vice chairman for trade committee of parliament thanked President Akufo Addo for fulfilling promise made to the traders .

“first of all I want to appreciate H. E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo the President of the Republic for actually honouring his promise .As you may know on the 13th of September we had a very major fire disaster that hit the Akyem Oda market .The Central Market got burnt totally .Fire ravaged the market and none could pick anything .True to his word today , we have witnessed the presentation of a dummy cheque of about Ghc3million to market women who have very huge capital lost as a result of the fire outbreak.

He added “so within this period there have been the injection of about Ghc4.2 million into the Akyem Oda Economy .We are hopeful that this injections are not going to waste it will be a turning point of business of these market women in the Akyem Oda Municipality”
