The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially launched the FIFA U-15 Girls Regional Colts League, a major initiative aimed at strengthening the foundation of women’s football across the country.

The launch, which was attended by officials from FIFA and the GFA, marks another important milestone in Ghana’s growing investment in women’s football development.

President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku, acknowledged FIFA’s continued support in promoting women’s football from the grassroots level in Ghana, noting that the partnership is already producing positive results.

“We are grateful to FIFA for all the support through the women’s development programme. Our investment in women’s football is already yielding results,” he said.

According to Kurt Okraku, the U-15 Girls Regional Colts League is not just about competition but about creating a sustainable future for women’s football in Ghana. He described the league as the foundation upon which the next generation of female footballers will be built.

To ensure the success of the league, the GFA has committed eighty thousand Ghana cedis as start-up support, describing the initiative as a critical pathway for identifying and nurturing young female talents nationwide.

FIFA officials present at the launch praised the GFA’s efforts and pledged continued support for the initiative.

“This is an ongoing partnership with FIFA, and you at the GFA are doing a good job. We pledge to support the league,” said Thubaelihle Brigdgette, FIFA Technical Expert.

FIFA further reiterated its commitment to getting more girls involved in football and strengthening the development pathway for the women’s game.

With strong backing from FIFA and firm commitment from the GFA, the U-15 Girls Regional Colts League is expected to play a key role in shaping the future of women’s football in Ghana.
