The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has allocated GHc300,000 to 10 Regional Football Associations (RFAs) to cover officiating fees for their league competitions.
The payment is in accordance with GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku’s pledge made at the 29th Ordinary Session of the GFA Congress in Kumasi on July 10, 2023.
All RFAs have been provided with funds to cover the expenses of officiating in their ongoing competitions.
The disbursement was based on regional clubs, match numbers, and refereeing costs to ensure equity.
However, The Greater Accra football region received GHc50,000, while other regions received GHc30,000 to cover the cost of officiating in their respective regions.
The Upper West and Upper East football regions received GHc20,000 each. The RFAs and their DFAs are in charge of clubs in Division Two, Division Three, Regional Women’s Division One, and Colts U13, 15, and U17 leagues.
Payment of officiating fees is a great challenge for clubs that compete in the Regional Leagues. The GFA is investing GHc200,000 in the training of Catch Them Young Referees to improve their skills and prepare them for Regional League competitions.
The GFA has provided whistles, referee assistant flags, and red and yellow cards to RFAs to assist with the Catch Them Young Refereeing Policy.
The Association plans to distribute referee uniforms to the RFAs in the coming week for the Catch Them Young Referees program.
