In a bold move to accelerate the growth of young football talent in Ghana, GFA President, Kurt Okraku, has announced major changes that will take effect from the 2025/26 season.
Speaking at the 31st Ordinary Congress in Prampram on Tuesday, August 12, Okraku revealed that all Ghana Premier League clubs will be required to include at least four U-19 players in their matchday squads, with a minimum of two featuring in each game.
The directive also extends to the lower divisions. Division One League; at least 6 U-19 players in the squad, with a minimum of 3 starting. Division Two League; at least 8 U-19 players in the squad, with a minimum of 4 starting.
According to the GFA boss, this policy is aimed at giving more opportunities to promising young players, allowing them to gain valuable experience and prepare for professional careers at both local and international levels.
“These changes will not only improve player development but also ensure our leagues become the breeding ground for the next generation of stars,” Okraku stated.
