Minister for Finance, Dr. Ato Forson, has announced that government will retool the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) with 100 fire tenders and assorted modern fire equipment to enhance the Service’s capacity in protecting lives and property.
Presenting the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy in Parliament on Thursday, November 13, 2025, Dr. Forson acknowledged that the Fire Service currently lacks the basic equipment needed to function effectively in ensuring public safety.
He stated that the retooling initiative forms part of government’s broader commitment to strengthening emergency response systems and improving national safety infrastructure.
“Government will retool the Ghana National Fire Service with 100 fire tenders and assorted fire equipment,” Dr. Forson told Parliament, adding that the state will also partner with the private sector to procure high-rise fire equipment.

According to the Minister, these interventions will significantly improve the effectiveness of the Ghana National Fire Service in responding to emergencies nationwide.
The announcement was made as part of the 2026 Budget themed “Resetting for Growth, Jobs, and Economic Transformation,” which underscores government’s drive to rebuild and modernise key national institutions after inheriting what Dr. Forson described as a distressed economy in January 2025.
He concluded his address by reaffirming government’s commitment to building a fair, prosperous, and self-reliant Ghana under the visionary leadership of President John Dramani Mahama.
