The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially designated the Ghana Police Service as the only security institution authorized to provide protection for its Presidential Primary scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026.
In a statement signed by National Organizer Henry Nana Boakye, the party stressed that the presence of any non-uniformed, plain-clothed, or unauthorized security personnel from National Security or other agencies at voting centres, collation points, or related activities will not be tolerated.
“We have information that some elements within the National Security have plans to deploy unauthorised operatives. Any attempt by National Security or any other unauthorised body to deploy operatives to the election will be treated as a deliberate and unlawful intrusion into the internal democratic processes of the Party,” the statement warned.
The party said it would take all lawful steps to protect the integrity of the primary. “Any unauthorised presence will be challenged and resisted within the bounds of the law,” Boakye added.
The Ghana Police Service, according to the NPP, has demonstrated sufficient capacity and professionalism, and the party expects them to strictly enforce this directive.
“The Police must ensure that only duly authorized, identifiable police officers are deployed throughout the exercise in accordance with assurances given,” the statement noted.
The aspirants are former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, Abetifi MP and former Agriculture Minister Dr. Bryan Acheampong, former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former NPP General Secretary and Presidential Press Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong.
The party reiterated that the primary is an internal democratic process, and the safety of voters and aspirants depends solely on adherence to the security arrangements set by the Ghana Police.
