The highly anticipated Ghana Premier League will return this evening as the 2021/2022 season kick starts at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Division One League, Zone three champions, Accra Lions will welcome relegation survivors Elmina Sharks in the curtain raiser of the season.
Accra Lions is better identified with striker Rauf Salifu who netted 21 times in the Division one league. His prowess will be tested by the defense of the fearsome Sharks tonight.
Dreams FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko will battle things out on Saturday at the Accra Sports Stadium as one of the big fixtures for match day one.
Kumasi Asante Kotoko after missing out on both the Premier League and FA Cup titles, has made a number of decent signings to bounce back this season. The likes of Dickson Afoakwa(Ahinsan Sadio Mane), Richmond Lamptey, Richard Boadu and Stephen Amankona would all be seeking for a competitive debut after returning from a preseason tour in Dubai. Dreams FC on the other hand, have strengthened their defense with the addition of former Kotoko center back Habib Mohammed among others.
Reigning champions, Accra Hearts of Oak, after a CAF Champions league humiliation, would seek to restore positivity by recording victory against Legon Cities, a side managed by Maxwell Konadu. The game is scheduled at 3pm on Sunday, October 31.
After an eight year hiatus from the Ghana Premier League for eight years, Real Tamale United (RTU) will announce their comeback at the Aliu Mahama Stadium as they clash with Accra Great Olympics on Sunday. The Accra based side announced Felix Aboagye as the assistant head coach to Annor Walker last week. Will the ‘Awako-less’ Olympics side oppress ‘The Pride of Tamale’ or have a run for their money?
MTN FA Cup semifinalists, Medeama Sporting Club would travel to the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park to lock horns with Bechem United. Bechem United have bolstered their midfield with the signing of former Kotoko midfielder Abdul Latif Anabila.
The remaining fixtures will involve newly promoted side Bibiani Gold Stars and Berekum Chelsea at the DUN’S Park, King Faisal and WAFA at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and Karela United against Aduana Stars at the Crosby Awuah memorial Park.
Techiman Eleven Wonders will draw the curtains down on match day one, as they battle AshantiGold at the Ohene Ameyaw Park on Sunday afternoon.
