The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku has announced that Ghana has secured a major export contract to supply shea butter to the Netherlands and several other international markets.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, November 24, 2025, Mr. Opoku said the development marks a significant milestone in boosting the country’s agricultural value chain and creating sustainable jobs for women in the northern sector.
According to him, the export deal forms part of broader efforts to add value to Ghana’s shea industry, which employs thousands of rural women. He emphasized that the international demand for Ghanaian shea products continues to grow, creating new economic opportunities.
“We now have a contract to export shea butter to the Netherlands and other countries. This is a big step toward strengthening the shea industry and supporting the hardworking women who process shea across our communities,” he said.
Mr. Opoku noted that the initiative will increase foreign exchange earnings and complement government’s industrialization agenda, especially in agro-processing.
He assured that the government will continue supporting women-led cooperatives, training programmes, and modern processing facilities to boost production capacity.
