The host of ‘tales of the powder room’ on GHOne TV and co-host of the Starr Drive on Starr 103.5 FM Shirley E. F. Tibilla popularly known as Cookie Tee over the weekend took a tour of the VOA studios in Washington to interact with staff and shared her experience in the media landscape in Ghana with them.
Cookie also had the opportunity to interact with one of the VOA’s broadcast legends and on-air personality Dr. Shaka Ssali of ‘Straight Talk Africa’. She used the opportunity to introduce the EIB Network to him.
Speaking on press freedom in the Ghanaian media space in an interview with Douglas Mpuga on the ‘Nightline Africa’ show on VOA she said, “Ghana is quite free, freedom of speech, democracy is like 100% in Ghana. But that doesn’t mean you can just get on the radio and say anything.”
She went on “I mean, we’ve had instances where people would just come on air, they start to free their minds and especially attack political leaders. But that’s being regulated right now. Because that’s not what the media is supposed to do.”
Cookie observed that the media is supposed to put positivity out there. “Even if there’s a lot of outcry, rage out there, the media is actually supposed to tone it down. So in Ghana back home that’s what we do,” she said.
Cookie Tee is booked and confirmed as red-carpet host for Sarkodie’s upcoming ‘Rapperholic’ concert slated this Christmas day.

“However, running into one of VOA’s broadcast legends and on-air personality Dr. Shaka Ssali of ‘Straight Talk Africa’ which has aired to a global audience for two straight decades was the cherry on the cake for me,” an excited Cookie Tee explained.
