Nana Fofie has been announced as one of the first signees to Trinidadian-born rap star Nicki Minaj’s new record label.

The label’s name hasn’t been revealed but Minaj said it would be a subsidiary of Republic Records. The Dutch-Ghanaian singer will join other emerging acts such as American rappers Tate Kobang, Rico Danna and London Hill.

“Many are called, but few are chosen. Thank you Nicki Minaj for choosing me as one of the few. I’m ready to make history with you!” Fofie expressed her excitement and gratitude on Twitter, sharing a clip of Nicki Minaj’s announcement.

Fofie gained international attention with her viral mashup covers on YouTube, blending Afrobeats and R&B. Her renditions of Runtown’s ‘Mad Over You’ and Tekno’s ‘Pana’ have amassed over 13 million views on the video-sharing platform. She has also released original compositions, including ‘Bebe’, ‘When I See You’, and ‘Selling Dreams’. Her new EP EMDR is due later this month.
