The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that Ghana’s Embassy in Washington DC will officially reopen on Thursday, May 29, 2025, following weeks of administrative suspension and operational restructuring.
The reopening comes after the recall of all Home-Based Staff and the suspension of Local Staff at the mission. A team of experienced diplomats, led by a senior official from the Foreign Ministry, has been deployed to take charge of the Embassy’s operations. The move, according to the Ministry, is aimed at ensuring a total systems overhaul, restoring integrity, and completing ongoing structural reforms.
As part of the restructuring, an Information Technology (IT) team has already reconfigured the Embassy’s website and payment platforms to eliminate all unofficial and unauthorized digital links previously associated with the mission’s system.
The Ministry has assured the public that necessary measures have been instituted to address and clear the backlog of services. “Any inconvenience resulting from our necessary interventions is deeply regretted,” the statement noted.
Additionally, the Ministry confirmed that the “unfortunate circumstances” which led to the temporary closure of the mission have been reported to the Auditor-General and Attorney-General for further investigation and the imposition of appropriate sanctions.
The Foreign Ministry reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and improving service delivery in Ghana’s diplomatic missions globally. Members of the public can direct inquiries to the mission through the provided contact emails and phone numbers.
