The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed two additional cases of Mpox in the country, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to four as of Saturday, May 18, 2025.
According to a press release signed by the Acting Director General of the GHS, Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, the new cases were detected in the Greater Accra and Western Regions, following earlier confirmations on May 15. Preliminary investigations show no epidemiological links between the new cases and the previously reported ones.
The GHS assured the public that relevant Regional Health Directorates have swiftly activated response protocols, including contact tracing, to prevent further transmission of the virus.
Mpox is a viral disease transmitted through close contact with infected individuals, animals, or contaminated materials. Common symptoms include rash, fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy, and swollen lymph nodes.
Earlier on May 15, 2025, the GHS confirmed the first two cases of Mpox in Ghana, in the Accra Metropolitan area of the Greater Accra Region.

The Health Service has advised the public to remain vigilant and observe the following precautions:
Practice regular hand hygiene, Avoid close contact with individuals showing symptoms, particularly those with rashes, Report suspected cases to the nearest health facility without delay.
The GHS and the Ministry of Health have also called on media houses to support public education by raising awareness and providing accurate information on Mpox.
Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding public health, the government says it will continue to implement necessary measures to protect all citizens.
