The District Chief Executive for Gomoa East in the Central Region, Margaret Naana Ackom, has called for the establishment of a court complex in the district to help curb rising criminal activities and improve access to justice.
She made the appeal urging the Chief Justice and President Mahama to prioritise the creation of a court facility in the area, which has a population of over 308,697 but currently lacks its own court.
According to her, residents of Gomoa East are forced to travel to Kasoa or Winneba to access legal services, a situation she says delays justice delivery and weakens efforts to fight crime.
Speaking to GHOne News after commissioning offices for institutions such as the NHIS, Immigration Service, and Narcotics Control Commission, she stressed the importance of decentralising justice services.
Margaret Naana Ackom also revealed that her office has converted the DCE’s bungalow and the District Coordinating Director’s residence into office space for several state institutions, including the Ghana Immigration Service, National Health Insurance Authority, Ghana Identification Authority, and the Works Department.
She said the initiative is aimed at improving service delivery in the district, adding that her administration is focused on serving the people of Gomoa East rather than personal interests.
