As part of his pre-budget engagements, Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has visited the abandoned Takoradi Market Circle redevelopment site, pledging government’s renewed commitment to completing the long-stalled project after three years of inactivity.
The visit comes just days before the presentation of the 2026 Budget Statement on Thursday, November 13, 2025.
Dr. Forson described the Market Circle as both a “symbol of Takoradi’s economic resilience” and a reflection of Ghana’s broader infrastructure challenges.

“The Market Circle project has been captured as a priority project of government, and work will resume next year,” Dr. Forson assured.
He explained that the contractor will return to site in early 2026, once Ghana’s ongoing debt restructuring programme is fully concluded, paving the way for the project’s revival.
The Minister was accompanied by Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem, Western Regional Minister Joe Nelson, and Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) Fredrick Faustinus Faidoo.

When completed, the Takoradi Market Circle project will transform one of Ghana’s oldest trading centres into a modern commercial hub, featuring improved sanitation systems, decongested trading spaces, and upgraded infrastructure to support small businesses and local commerce.
