Managing Director of Heath Goldfields, Patrick Appiah Mensah, says the company is determined to change the long-standing narrative that mining communities derive little or no benefit from the natural resources found on their lands.
Speaking at a thanksgiving ceremony attended by workers, company directors, traditional leaders, and other stakeholders, Mr. Appiah Mensah reaffirmed the commitment of the new owners to transform the Bogoso-Prestea Mine into a productive operation that will drive development in surrounding communities.
Heath Goldfields was approved as the new owner of the Bogoso-Prestea Mine in September 2024, a transition that came with significant legal challenges.
Following the court’s decision, Heath Goldfields commenced operations, including the dewatering of the underground mine and the processing of ore. These developments have rekindled hope among residents of the Bogoso-Prestea area, many of whom were affected by the prolonged shutdown of the mine.

Speaking at the thanksgiving ceremony, Mr. Appiah Mensah said management is resolved to demonstrate that Ghanaians can successfully manage and transform the mine into a profitable and sustainable venture. He expressed gratitude to the company’s owners for the confidence reposed in him as Managing Director and assured them of his commitment to delivering results.
He also appealed to workers to give their best and set aside all grievances, noting that the mine’s profitability would ultimately benefit the wider Bogoso-Prestea community.
Nana Akwasi Somprey II, the Divisional Chief of Bogoso, speaking on behalf of the traditional authorities on whose lands the mine operates, welcomed the takeover by Heath Goldfields. He lamented the years of hardship and despair communities endured following the mine’s closure and urged the new management to reverse the trend through responsible and inclusive operations.
The ceremony was graced by the Board Chairman, Dr. Kwabena Duffour Jnr., as well as other directors of the company. Amidst praises and worship, workers pledged their commitment to supporting management’s vision to restore the mine and contribute to its growth and the development of the area.
