The Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic (NDC), Dr. Mark Oliver Kevor, has confirmed that the mother of the late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, is in stable condition and has returned to Accra with her Kwahu family after undergoing medical observation.
Her transfer to Accra followed the intervention of Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, who, together with a high-powered government delegation, visited her Koforidua residence on Wednesday August 6,2025 to officially inform of her son’s passing.
The Health Minister immediately facilitated her transport for medical attention.
Dr. Omane Boamah, the only child of his mother, died in a helicopter crash that also claimed the lives of Environment, Science and Technology Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, NADMO Deputy Director-General Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
The Eastern Regional branch of the NDC has described the late Minister as a patriot, role model, and selfless servant of Ghana. In a statement signed by Regional Chairman Ing. Mark-Oliver Kevor,PhD, the party highlighted Dr. Boamah’s decades-long service; from Deputy Minister for Environment to Communications Minister, Presidential Spokesperson, Director of Elections, and ultimately, Defence Minister.
“He was not only a statesman but also a dependable comrade, a voice of reason, and a source of inspiration to many, especially the youth of the Eastern Region. His tragic passing in the line of duty is a painful reminder of the sacrifices made by those who serve our country at the highest levels” The statement said
A book of condolence will be opened at the Eastern Regional NDC Secretariat in Koforidua from Sunday, August 10 to Thursday, August 14, between 9am and 4pm, for party members and the public to pay their respects.
Another book of condolence has also been opened at the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council, where Regional Minister Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, accompanied by some MCEs, was among the first to sign.

The Minister said “Dr. Omane Boamah was not only a pillar of national service but also a shining example of Eastern Region’s tradition of producing leaders of integrity, courage, and vision. His passing is not only a loss to the country but a deep wound to the heart of the Eastern Region. We have been robbed of one of our finest a man whose life was marked by service, sacrifice, and unshakable love for his country and his people”
She described the late Minister as “a symbol of Eastern excellence and courage.”
