Ho: EP University appoints Kwasi Bakah as President

The Governing Council of the Evangelical Presbyterian University College in Ho has appointed Professor Edem Kwasi Bakah as its new President.

He takes over from Dr. Kenneth Nyalemegbe who has been acting since the departure of Dr. Rev. Cyril Fayose who is now the General Secretary of the Christian Council.

Prof. Bakah whose appointment takes effect from February 1st, 2021 was officially introduced to the university community on Wednesday, 16th December, 2020 at a short ceremony on the administrative campus of the school in Ho.

Speaking during the introduction, Chairman of the Governing Council Rev. Dr. Setri Nyormi noted that the appointment of Prof. Bakah would ensure that the university becomes a star amongst private universities in the country and beyond; while overcoming the challenges of the school by providing the right leadership.

On his part, Prof. Bakah assured the gathering of his readiness for the job while calling on the university community to lend him the needed support towards the growth of the university.

Profile of Prof. Bakah

Born on 13th June, 1976 at Abor in the Keta Municipality of the Volta region, Prof. Edem Kwasi Bakah had his basic school education at Anlo-Afiadenyigba E. P. Primary School and the Local Authority Junior Secondary School from 1981 to 1990 and continued to the Abor Secondary School from 1991 to 1993.

He obtained Bachelor of Education (Arts) degree with Second Class Upper Division in 2000 and Master of Philosophy in Linguistics and Didactics in 2004 at the University of Cape Coast. He also pursued further studies in Linguistics and Didactics at the Université de Strasbourg in France and was awarded Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in 2007 and 2010 respectively.

As an academic, researcher and administrator, he has worked as a principal research assistant from 2004 to 2005, lecturer from 2005 to 2010 and as a senior lecturer from 2011 to 2018. He is also an Associate Professor from 2018 to date at the Department of French, University of Cape Coast.

With over 16 years of rich experience in higher education, Prof. Bakah has 25 academic publications to his credit.

Until his appointment he equally served and continue to serve the University Community in various capacities including being a member of the UCC Governing Council, a member of the Board of Convocation, Doctoral Committee of the College of Humanities and Legal Studies amongst others.

Apart from these services to the university community, the new President also served as an external examiner for the Departments of French, University of Education Winneba and University of Ghana, Legon.

Prof. Bakah was also the first National Coordinator for Inter-University Conference on Doctoral Studies in French and have been an active member of professional organisations such as University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) and Ghana Association of French Teachers (GAFT) and the Chairperson of the Management Committee of Alliance Française, Cape Coast.

Established by the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in 2007 the university offers a variety of educational disciplines churning out thousands of graduates every academic year.
