The Chairman of Parliament’s Appointments Committee, Bernard Ahiafor has denied allegations that ministerial nominees are required to pay money to secure approval.
The chairman vowed to submit himself to Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) committee over these allegations for investigation if necessary.
His response follows a controversial social media post by activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor, who alleged that appointees were being asked to pay money before their approval.
In reaction to the allegations at Parliament January 29, 2025, Chairman Benard Ahiafor dismissed them as false, stating: “I, Bernard Ahiafor, Chairman of the Committee and 1st Deputy Speaker of Parliament, and the committee members do not demand money from nominees before vetting them”.
“I’m ever ready to submit myself to ORAL. We need to stop certain attitudes. So, therefore, I, Benard Ahiafor, and the Chairman of the Committee, want to place it on record that myself and the committee members don’t demand money from any nominees before vetting and approval.”
The committee has summoned Barker-Vormawor who is expected to appear before the Committee tomorrow to substantiate his claims. He is yet to respond to his summons.
