Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has firmly dismissed suggestions that he is aligned with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), stressing that his place in Parliament is rooted in independence rather than party loyalty.
Speaking on GHToday with Serwaa Amihere on Thursday, January 29, 2026, A-Plus said he has no intention of becoming a card-bearing member of any political party, insisting that partisan affiliation would limit his ability to think and act freely.
“I am independent-minded. I am not a member of the NDC. I’m not a card-bearing member of the NDC,” he stated. “I am an independent-minded person. I don’t know if I will ever have a party card.”
According to the Gomoa Central legislator, political parties often impose restrictions that prevent lawmakers from expressing honest views or acting purely in the national interest.
“I want to be free to say what I want to say and do what I want to do. Political parties put you in a certain box, and it makes it difficult for you to operate,” A-Plus explained.
He clarified, however, that his independence does not translate into isolation in Parliament. A-Plus said he remains open to working with colleagues across the aisle, particularly in advancing governance and development.
“I don’t want to be in that corner. However, I will do business with the majority, always,” he added.
