Richard Ahiagbah, Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has defended his approach to political communication, pushing back against criticisms that he is too restrained in representing the party.
Speaking on The Verdict with Isaac Addae on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, Ahiagbah acknowledged that some perceive him as not “firing enough” in defence of the NPP. However, he insisted that the role demands consistency, balance, and a disciplined approach.
“It’s a job that you come to with a certain understanding that you have a responsibility to market and represent the party in the best possible light,” he said.
Ahiagbah noted that the party’s diverse social base makes it impossible for one communication style to satisfy every expectation.
“We are a party of intellectuals, middle-class people, and regular Ghanaians. At any given time, people will want you to represent all personalities in that spectrum,” he explained.
He emphasized that his priority is staying true to the responsibilities of his role rather than succumbing to pressures to be more combative.
“You have to be true to form, consistent, and give your best to the calling you’ve answered,” Ahiagbah added.
