I’m being persecuted by Supreme Court – Woyome

Embattled businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome has lashed out at the Supreme Court saying he is being persecuted by the apex court.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday granted the application by former Attorney General Martin Amidu to examine Mr. Woyome on how he utilized the GH¢51.2 million judgment debt paid him by the state.

The Supreme Court presided by Justice Anim Yeboah ordered that Mr. Woyome appears in Court on oath on Thursday, November 24, 2016 to be examined by Mr. Amidu.

But speaking after the ruling of the Supreme Court, Mr. Woyome stated that the apex court has been unfair and failed to offer him justice.

“I abide by the review decision of the Supreme Court but I am unable to agree with the decision,” a visibly livid Woyome told journalists.

He added: “The Supreme Court appears to be persecuting me now rather than persecuting the law, didn’t they say in their review decision that they are the apex court of the land mandated to do justice to all manner of people, does my being a judgment debtor take away my right to apply the same principle to me.

“After Amidu examines me, does he leave the enforcement to the AG or the Supreme Court will cloak him with the decision to enforce as a citizen AG…I am really being persecuted, I am being oppressed by the apex court now and it is worrying.”

Mr. Woyome also suggested that the decision by the Supreme Court was taken because they were misinformed by Mr. Amidu.

“The Supreme Court has given too much lateral things to a man who has misinformed them, I was not given an opportunity to talk to them.”

Mr. Woyome recently refunded GH¢4 million to state coffers, representing part payment of the GH¢51.2 million he owes the state.

He has, through his lawyers, promised to pay the outstanding balance by quarterly installments of GH¢5 million, commencing April 1, 2017.
