Attorney General (AG) and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine has charged members of the Entity Tender Committee (ETC) of the Office of the Attorney General to ensure that all dealings of the office are conducted in full compliance with the law.

At a short swearing-in ceremony in Accra, the AG while swearing the committee of 11 members whom he is the chairman, emphasized the importance of adhering to public procurement requirements.

As the Office of the Attorney General is expected to set a high standard for others to follow, Dr. Ayine stressed that the committee’s work must be guided by the law.

He reminded the committee members that his office has been actively prosecuting public officials who breach procurement laws, underscoring the need for transparency and accountability in the disbursement of public resources.

“We know that when budgetary resources are allocated to any ministry, department, or agency, it is incumbent upon that ministry, department, or agency to spend their resources in accordance with the law, our Public Financial Management Act,” the AG said

“As the Ministry of Justice, which is in charge of prosecution and law enforcement, I am very much aware that we have to set an example in complying with the law so that other ministries, departments, and agencies will follow suit.

“You witnessed the swearing-in ceremony; I mean, the members of the entity tender committee are being sworn in to ensure that the ministry complies precisely with the laws as stipulated under the Public Procurement Act and its regulations, Dr Ayine noted.

“The reason is simply because we are the ministry that has been prosecuting public officials for breaches of the Public Procurement Act; we should be the last to be seen breaching the same act that we have been enforcing against other public officials.

“I am very hopeful that under my guidance and the guidance of senior officers and civil servants, including the Solicitor General, the Director of Public Prosecutions, and the Director of Legislative Drafting, we will act together to comply with the public procurement laws of the country.

“This budget has been allocated to us by the Minister of Finance, Honourable Ato Forson, very judiciously, so that the Ministry can benefit and the country as a whole can also benefit,” he said.
