Ghanaian YouTuber and travel content creator Wode Maya has revealed that American streamer IShowSpeed intentionally avoided celebrity encounters during his recent visit to Ghana, focusing instead on engaging with ordinary people.
Speaking on Starr Chat with Bola Ray on Thursday, January 29, 2026, Wode Maya explained the purpose behind the visit.
“With whatever that happened when IShowSpeed came around, everything was arranged,” he said.
“He didn’t want to meet any popular person. He came for the people.”
According to Wode Maya, the streamer prioritised spontaneous interactions and everyday experiences over formal or high-profile meet-and-greets. “He just wanted to have fun with the ordinary people. He wanted to spend time with the locals,” he added.
He also recounted an incident at Independence Square, where heavy public attention threatened to overshadow the visit.
“A lot of people were following me at the Independence Square. I had to go back to my car because of them,” Wode Maya said. “I just wanted them to know that the day was for IShowSpeed and not me.”
Throughout the trip, IShowSpeed’s main goal was clear: to experience Ghana through its people. “IShowSpeed just wanted to see the people,” Wode Maya concluded.
