Ismael, Lariba emerged winners of Koforidua marathon 2020

Ismael Fialor and Sakat Lariba were crowned the 2020 Koforidua Marathon champion after they won the 42.190kilometres race successfully to mark the maiden edition.

The Marathon saw 213 Athletes both male and female from Volta Region, Ashanti Region, Eastern Region, Central Region, Northern Region and Greater Accra participating for an ultimate prize

The women’s event produced an upset as teenage sensation Sakat Lariba from the Northern Region won the race.

Along the routes, Fialor and Lariba received cheers and encouragement from the community and fans as he powered home strongly without showing signs of exhaustion when he crossed the finish line at the Koforidua Sports Stadium forecourt.

The women’s competition proved equally exciting as Lariba, the national asset finished well ahead of all participants. Sarah Kumson crossed the line a few minutes later placing her second position whilst Sharifa More from Kumasi became third.

On the men’s 42.190KM, Ismael Fialor doubled his race ahead of Richard and Nettey to finished as the winner after a long curved snake laps in the township of Koforidua.

Both Male and Female champions taking home a whopping amount of Gh¢5,000  each in the madien edition of the  2020 Koforidua Marathon with Melcom Gift Vouchers of Ghc 500.00 and Kasapreko Company Limited products (Awake Purified Drinking Water and Puma Energy Drinks). The first runner-up Richard Kwetu (Male) and Sarah Kumson (Female) grabbing GH¢3,000 with Melcom Gift Vouchers of Ghc 200.00 and Kasapreko Company Limited products (Awake Purified Drinking Water and Puma Energy Drinks) and the second runner-up Nettey Rubber(Male) and Sharifa Moro (Female) receiving GH¢2,000 with Melcom Gift Vouchers of Ghc 100.00 and Kasapreko Company Limited products (Awake Purified Drinking Water and Puma Energy Drinks)

Ismael Fialor, the overall best performer speaking to General Manucho of GBC Sunrise, Ismael Fialor said “It’s a good pleasure for coming first. I saw it coming after the screening yesterday at YMCA Koforidua.”

“It was quite difficult and tough for me… I love competing for Ghana in any athletics ahead in few days coming and to become like Usain Bolt.”

Mr. Michael Okyere Kofi Baafi, CEO of Ghana Free Zone Authority who is also NPP candidate for New Juaben South Constituency, said, “The Next Koforidua Marathon 2021 ultimate price will not be GH¢5,000 cash but rather a Car”. He also said the image of Koforidua must catch the map of Ghana.

“He acknowledged the selfless gesture of Ansoff Marketing Consult, who’s leader is the Managing Director and Head of Brands, Kwabena Bediako Antwi-Dako popularly known as IBK and Head of Marketing and Sales Edmund Boateng and the rest of their team, the Eastern Regional National Sports Authority, the media and all stakeholders who contributed to the success story of the 2020 Koforidua Marathon”. He concluded.
