The widow of the late Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North, J.B. Danquah-Adu, Ivy Heward-Mills, has publicly called out Ghana’s Parliament for its silence on her husband’s unresolved murder.
J.B. Danquah-Adu was brutally murdered in his home in 2016, and despite multiple arrests and court proceedings, the case remains unresolved.
In a social media post directed at Speaker Alban Bagbin, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, and all Members of Parliament, she expressed disappointment over the legislative body’s inaction nearly nine years after the crime.
Referencing the swift justice served in the 2016 murder case of British Member of Parliament Jo Cox, Ivy Heward-Mills lamented the contrast in Ghana’s response, stating, “By November of the same year, Jo Cox’s murderer had been found, tried, convicted, and sentenced. All in five months.”
She emphasized that while justice could not bring back a loved one, it provided closure to the family something she and her children have been denied.
