The Minority caucus in Parliament has officially raised concerns regarding the chairmanship of the Ad-Hoc Committee, currently led by Hon. Emmanuel Bedzrah.
In a memorandum dated February, 10 addressed to the committee chairman, Minority Leader Osahen Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin indicated that the Minority Caucus had submitted its concerns to the Speaker of Parliament and was awaiting a response before proceeding with further engagements.
The memorandum, which was also copied to the Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, emphasized that the Minority’s decision should not be misinterpreted as a refusal to engage with the committee; instead, it stressed the need to ensure fairness, impartiality, and credibility in the committee’s proceedings.
Here’s the full memo.
I write to inform you that I have submitted a memorandum to the Rt Hon Speaker, on behalf of the Minority Caucus, regarding concerns surrounding your continued chairmanship of the Ad-hoc Committee’s proceedings.
Pursuant to this, and given the significance of the issues raised, the Minority Caucus considers it prudent to await the Speaker’s response before taking any further steps in relation to the Committee’s work.
This should not be misconstrued as an unwillingness on the part of the Minority to engage with the Committee. Rather, it is a necessary step to ensure that due process is followed, and the process remains fair, impartial, and credible. We trust that the Speaker will address these concerns in a manner that upholds the integrity of the Committee’s work and the broader interests of Parliament.
We appreciate your understanding and look forward to a resolution that ensures confidence in the Committee’s proceedings.
Respectfully submitted.
