Ghana’s former Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta has been permanently removed from INTERPOL’s Red Notice list, following a ruling by the Commission for the Control of Files (CCF) that the notice was “predominantly political” and non-compliant with INTERPOL rules.
A public notice from Ofori-Atta’s lawyers, Minkah-Premo, Osei-Bonsu, Bruce-Cathline & Partners, on Friday February 13, 2026, confirmed that the Red Notice issued by Ghana’s National Central Bureau will be permanently deleted from INTERPOL’s system.
The notice stated, “After a thorough examination of the elements before it, the commission found that the challenged data registered by the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) of Ghana were not compliant with INTERPOL’s rules and decided that they should be deleted from the INTERPOL information system.”
The Red Notice, which serves as a request for international assistance in locating and provisionally arresting an individual, had been issued after Ofori-Atta reportedly failed to appear before the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on several occasions over investigations related to the National Cathedral project and revenue assurance contracts with Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited.
He was declared a fugitive in February 2025, though his status was temporarily lifted after he pledged to return to Ghana.
The permanent deletion comes following OSP’s formal charges on November 18, 2025, against Ofori-Atta and seven others with 78 counts of corruption and related offences. The High Court (Criminal Division) in Accra is handling the case, listed as CR/0106/2026.
Ofori-Atta’s lawyers hailed the decision, noting, “PUBLIC NOTICE: RED NOTICE AGAINST KEN OFORI-ATTA DELETED PERMANENTLY: INTERPOL DOES NOT ENDORSE POLITICAL PERSECUTION.”
Justice Kusi-Minkah Premo, counsel for Ofori-Atta, described the move as a vindication, emphasizing that INTERPOL’s files have been permanently cleared of the politically charged listing.
Meanwhile, Attorney General and Minister for Justice Dr. Dominic Ayine announced that steps have been initiated for the extradition of Ofori-Atta, ensuring the legal proceedings in Ghana continue in accordance with the law.
