Kennedy Agyapong donates 100,000 Cedis and 200 streetlights to support Adum Railways market reconstruction

Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has donated one hundred thousand Ghana cedis and 200 streetlights to support the government’s efforts in redeveloping the market.

The NPP presidential candidate hopeful commended the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, and security agencies for their efforts in managing the fire disaster.

He called on other philanthropists and the business community to support the reconstruction of the market to help restore the victims’ businesses.

On Friday, 20th March 2025, a raging fire destroyed 425 stores in storey buildings and 1,484 container shops, displacing about 1,621 people, according to data recorded by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) at the Adum Railways Market in Kumasi.

Several philanthropists, including the Gender Ministry, MASLOC, and others, have made donations to support the victims.

Today, popular businessman and politician Kennedy Ohene Agyapong visited the market to sympathize with the victims and offer words of encouragement.
“If you look at the damage the fire has caused here, my heart is broken. In fact, I’m here this morning to encourage you that as long as you have life, you have everything. When our parents gave birth to us, we came empty-handed. But once we are alive and energetic, I’m confident that with our hard-working nature, we will recover whatever we have lost to this unfortunate fire. My message to all victims is: please stay strong and never give up,” he said.
Kennedy Agyapong cautioned those playing politics with the disaster to stop and urged that city authorities be given the necessary respect in their efforts to redevelop the market, as engagements with the Manhyia Palace continue.
“I didn’t come here today to do party politics. I’m here because my brothers and sisters who have been affected by the fire are the reason I came. I care about all victims, whether you are NDC or NPP. You are Ashanti and Ghanaian, so we can’t do politics with such a serious issue. When we arrived, we accorded the Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the necessary respect. I know he has a lot of work to do today, so he sent Kwasi Ofri Agyemang, popularly known as King Zuba, to receive me, and I appreciate that show of respect to me and my delegation by briefing us on what they are doing about the situation. This is how politics should be done. So, I would like to commend the regional minister and the security services for the good work done so far,” he said.
He further stated, “This morning, I’m here to donate one hundred thousand Ghana cedis and 200 streetlights to KMA through the Member of Parliament for the Subin Constituency.”
“I know that in times like these, criminals may want to take advantage of the situation. Let’s brighten the area with these lights and other parts of Adum that do not have proper security to improve night visibility,” he noted.
The traders commended the outspoken politician for his support and also expressed their appreciation for the Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, stating that he has been very supportive. They noted that from the very day the incident happened up until now, the minister has not left them to fight their battle alone.

The delegation that accompanied Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the NPP presidential candidate hopeful, included the Member of Parliament for the Subin Constituency, the Odotori Constituency MP, the Deputy National Communications Director, and the Ashanti Regional Organizer of the NPP, Francis Adomako, among others.

Kennedy Agyapong and his delegation walked from Kumasi Central Prison while singing and dancing, holding different banners communicating his intention to contest the party’s presidential elections when nominations are opened.
