Kofi Adu Domfeh, Senior News Editor at the Kumasi Unit of the Multimedia Group, has been elected as the new Ashanti Regional Chairperson of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA).
His victory came after a closely contested regional election, part of a nationwide exercise to elect new national and regional executives for the association. Domfeh edged out his opponent Georgina Ankomah by a single vote, securing 16 votes to 15.
Renowned for his advocacy on ethical journalism and climate issues, Domfeh campaigned on a three-point agenda centered on professional integrity, ethical dignity, and accountability.
His vision, he said, is to restore the GJA’s credibility and foster a more inclusive and dynamic media environment in the Ashanti Region.
“I am humbled by the support and trust. Together, we will raise the bar of professionalism, protect the integrity of our work, and ensure the welfare of every journalist is prioritized,” Domfeh said in his victory speech, thanking colleagues for their confidence in him.
He will be joined in the regional leadership by Nicholas Osei-Wusu of GBC as Vice Chairperson, Beatrice Spio Gabbrah of Media General as General Secretary, and Dr. Neta Kris Abiana Pasram as Treasurer.
Domfeh’s election has been widely welcomed by media practitioners and stakeholders across the region, many of whom are hopeful about the future direction of the association under his leadership.
The GJA elections were held to usher in a new cohort of leaders to guide the association’s affairs for the next term, both at the national and regional levels.
