Government has officially reverted the name of Kotoka International Airport to its original designation, Accra International Airport.
The announcement was made by the Ministry of Transport, which said the decision responds to calls from sections of the public and civil society groups who argued that the previous name did not fully reflect the country’s democratic ideals.
The Ministry assured that the renaming will not affect airport operations, safety standards, or international travel arrangements.
The airport code ACC used by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) will remain unchanged.
Officials explained that the transition will involve updating official documents, signage, digital platforms, aviation publications, and other communication materials.
Stakeholders and international partners have been asked to cooperate for a smooth changeover.
