A new opinion poll by Global InfoAnalytics ahead of the Kpandai parliamentary rerun shows a razor-thin contest, with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Matthew Nyindam, holding a slight edge.
The survey, released on Sunday, December 14, 2025, puts Nyindam at 50 per cent support, just four points ahead of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Daniel Nsala Wakpal, who polled 46 per cent. One per cent of respondents said they would vote for Donkor Eric Nipani, while three per cent remain undecided.
Despite Nyindam’s marginal lead, the pollster cautioned that the race is far from settled. “The race is statistically a dead heat as Mathew Nyindam’s lead is within the poll’s margin of error of ±3.9%,” Global InfoAnalytics noted.
The data shows some voter movement between candidates. About two per cent of voters who previously supported Nyindam have switched to Wakpal, while an equal proportion moved in the opposite direction.
However, the poll found that 28 per cent of voters who backed Donkor Eric Nipani in the past have now shifted their support to Nyindam, giving the NPP candidate a crucial boost.
On Nyindam’s performance during his brief time in Parliament, opinions were mixed. While three per cent rated his work as “excellent,” 32 per cent described it as “very good or good.” Another 36 per cent considered his performance “average,” with 29 per cent saying it was “poor or very poor.”
Beyond the constituency race, the survey also captured broader national sentiment.
A clear majority of voters in Kpandai—66 per cent—believe Ghana is headed in the right direction, compared with 26 per cent who think otherwise. Approval ratings for President John Dramani Mahama were similarly strong, with 64 per cent of respondents saying they approve of his job performance.
On personal economic conditions since Mahama assumed office, 54 per cent of voters said their situation has improved, while 34 per cent reported no change and 11 per cent said it has worsened.
Jobs emerged as the dominant issue likely to influence voter choice in the rerun, cited by 34 per cent of respondents, followed by the economy (18 per cent) and road infrastructure (15 per cent).
The poll was conducted between December 11 and 13, 2025, using face-to-face interviews with 1,035 voters. It carries a confidence level of 99 per cent. Global InfoAnalytics says a final poll will be conducted closer to election day, with results expected in late December.
The poll comes amid heightened political tension following a ruling by the Tamale High Court, which ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct a in the Kpandai constituency.
EC has set Tuesday, December 30 to conduct the election despite Minority protest.
